PALOMA VARGA WEISZ Биография

Artist Paloma Varga Weisz was born in 1966, raised in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany. Weisz was educated from 1990-1998 at Kunstakademie Düsseldor and lives and works in Düsseldorf. It doesn't take much to imbue a pristine, high-ceilinged art gallery with a churchlike aura, and Paloma Varga Weisz has not exerted herself. In her New York debut, Ms. Varga Weisz, who is German, borrows too reverentially from late Gothic sculpture, setting the stage with four carved limewood busts of nuns installed on red velvet prayer stools. Nearby is a kind of altar: a swath of trussed and knotted silk arranged with wood hands, feet and a two-faced head to suggest a startlingly inverted figure -- a fallen angle, martyred saint or the Virgin Mary in extremis.
