Jon Whiddon (1960-2008) is a self-taught artist who always resisted attempts to define his art. "I like the process of painting; my art makes people feel good and makes me feel good." In 1999 after moving to South Georgia to care for his father, Jon soon began to experiment with paintings of the South Georgia landscape, which surrounded him on his family's farm. Taking in the big sky and lost horizons of pastures and roads, his paintings became enchanting expressions of vibrant lines and intense light. Many collectors were thrilled by his use of brilliant colors and deliberate, painterly brushwork. In 2000, Jon moved with his father to the North Georgia mountains to build and live in a home designed by him and his sister, Alycen. He experimented with figures in landscapes. The variety of emotion and fearless use of color define Jon's newest works. The geographic change brought works of new depth and intensity. Clouds became an important component in his paintings: "The mountains make them seem so much closer". His father's large organic garden is also a favorite February 2008, Jon left this world, after a sudden and short struggle with cancer. His family and friends miss him dearly, but are blessed by the art he left behind. Jon's personality continues to shine bright through his paintings.
