Art Brokerage: Giuseppe Cadenasso (1858-1918) Giuseppe Cadenasso was born in Genoa, Italy, and moved to California at the age of 9 to stay with an uncle who owned a vineyard. Working as a waiter, barber, and opera singer, Cadenasso earned the tuitions he needed for his art education. Having studied under Arthur Mathews, Cadenasso earned a fine reputation for his lyrical tonal works in the late 1890’s and early 1900’s. In 1902, Cadenasso moved across the San Francisco Bay to Oakland, and from 1903-1917 was the head of the Art Department at Mills College. On February 11, 1918, Giuseppe Cadenasso was killed after being struck by a car in San Francisco.
